Vue.js, often referred to simply as Vue, is an open-source JavaScript framework used for building user interfaces and single-page applications. It was created by Evan You and first released in 20141. Vue is known for its flexibility and ease of integration, making it a popular choice for both small and large-scale projects.
Here are some key features of Vue.js:
- Declarative Rendering: Vue extends standard HTML with a template syntax that allows you to declaratively describe HTML output based on JavaScript state.
- Component-Based Architecture: Vue components encapsulate reusable code, making it easier to manage and maintain complex applications1.
- Reactivity: Vue automatically tracks JavaScript state changes and efficiently updates the DOM when changes occur.
- Incremental Adoption: Vue can be used for enhancing static HTML, embedding as web components, or building full single-page applications.
Vue.js is designed to be incrementally adoptable, meaning you can start with as little or as much of it as you need and scale up as your project grows.

Each recording captures our technical discussions, presentations, and collaborative learning sessions.
Local Area Network (LAN)
A LAN is a network confined to a relatively small area, typically within a single building or campus. Your home network or office network are examples of LANs. Devices on a LAN can communicate quickly and directly with each other, sharing files, printers, and other resources. LANs typically offer high speeds since devices are physically close together.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
A WAN connects networks over a large geographical area. The Internet is the largest WAN, but companies also use private WANs to connect their different office locations. WANs typically operate at lower speeds than LANs due to the greater distances involved and rely on telecommunication lines or satellite links.
IP Addresses
Every device on a network needs a unique identifier called an IP address. There are two main versions:
- IPv4: Uses a 32-bit format like 192.168.1.1, divided into four octets
- IPv6: Uses a 128-bit format like 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334, created to address IPv4 address exhaustion
Think of IP addresses like postal addresses for devices - they ensure data packets reach their intended destination. IP addresses can be static (permanently assigned) or dynamic (automatically assigned by DHCP).
Switches
A switch is like a traffic controller for your local network. It learns which devices are connected to each of its ports and forwards data only to the intended recipient. This makes switches very efficient - if Computer A needs to send data to Computer B, other computers on the network won't see that traffic. Switches operate at Layer 2 (Data Link Layer) of the OSI model and use MAC addresses to forward frames.
Routers
Routers connect different networks together and direct traffic between them. While a switch handles traffic within a single network, routers handle traffic between networks. They:
- Determine the best path for data to reach its destination
- Connect your LAN to the internet (WAN)
- Provide basic firewall protection
- Often include DHCP servers to assign IP addresses
- Can prioritize certain types of traffic (QoS)
Routers operate at Layer 3 (Network Layer) of the OSI model and use IP addresses to make forwarding decisions. Think of a router like a post office - it knows how to get packages from one network to another by checking destination addresses and choosing the best route.
The interaction between these components creates modern networks: Devices connect to switches, switches connect to routers, and routers connect to other networks and the internet. This hierarchical structure allows for efficient, scalable networking from small home networks to the global internet.
